About Gooby.ca

Gooby.ca is my repository of personal projects and other mental detritus that occasionally falls onto my lap. It provides an outlet for my thoughts and activities, such as hiking and photography, as well as providing a medium for communicating with my widely-scattered friends and family. I also needed a venue to do all these things without intermingling them with my commercial web sites (when those get overhauled, the personal stuff often accidentally gets /dev/nulled.)

My name is Stephane Theroux and I currently hail from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada after having recently moved from Saturna Island, British Columbia. "Gooby" is a nickname I picked up while living on Saturna Island. The story behind it is quite boring, sufficing to say that it involved some undercooked chocolate cake.

After nearly six months of procrastination, I finally got to work and designed this site instead of leaving it mostly barren. Getting the Skyline Trail Journal online was the motivation to get started and I carried over the design to the entire site. More trip journals will hopefully be added in the near future to document some hikes I'm planning for this year.

The photo on the right is of the sandy cliffs at Saint's Rest beach in Saint John, New Brunswick, taken while hiking the Sheldon Point & Taylor Island nature trails on November 27, 2004. This show of colour was made possible by rains we've recently had, soaking the clay in the sandy cliffs (the darker areas are clay) and a light of a unique quality that lasted about 5 minutes (you can see the shade creeping in from the left).

More photos from the beach can be viewed in the Photo Gallery.
