This movie came out a while ago on DVD and I was tempted to buy it. The trailers made me think of an Equilibrium type movie, albeit a bit over the top, and I was about 5 minutes from walking out of my door to go and pay good money to see Ultraviolet when I glanced at Rotten Tomatoes and decided to wait until the DVD release. Well, I didn't buy it on DVD and I didn't rent it (I'll let you speculate on how I managed to watch it) and I am so thankful now that none of my money will reach the studio, the actors, the writers, the directors, or anyone associated with this movie. In case that last line didn't give it away, I hated Ultraviolet. Actually, hated my not be a strong enough word. Ultraviolet is anathema to my very being, it is the antimatter to my matter. I feel like I could just keep making absurd analogies concerning the horrific nature of this movie, but I don't have the energy after watching it.
The acting was non-existent. Unless the "actors" were actually trying to be that bad, because in that case they should win an Academy Award because you cannot even try to act as poorly as the cast of this movie. The action sequences were crap. I guess the writers (although I don't see how it could take more than a drunk monkey and a typewriter to write this script) and the director watched Equilibrium a few times and decided to copy its fight sequences but to make them so horrible that the audience would develop a subarachnoid hemorrhage as a defense mechanism. That's right, the movie is so bad that it will actually cause your ophthalmic artery to form an aneurysm and compress the ipsilateral optic nerve. That bad.
The only redeeming part of the whole movie was the end. I don't mean how the movie ended, just the fact that it did end. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. Please. If I hadn't just taken two English finals today and finished up two papers last night, I would probably spend the next few hours writing a dissertation on how bad this movie is. I give it zero stars out of infinity. If giving it a negative infinity out of infinity actually made made a mathematical difference, I would give it that. This movie is bad, please don't watch it.
